In the latest edition (July 2014) of "Webometrics" ranking, NIOM took a high – 5th place among 131 outstanding academic institutions in Poland and 731st place among 8000 of research institutions around the world, which according to the criteria of "Webometrics" most effectively disseminate knowledge obtained by them on the Internet.

Of national institutes the highest place among Polish centers and the 15th position in the world belongs to ICM (Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling). American centers turned out to be the best in the ranking. Top ten places belong to 6 American centers and the National Institutes of Health has been on the 1st place for many years. In the case of Europe, the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) is the leader.

The world’s ranking of research institutions - "Webometrics" is prepared twice a year by CSIC (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas) - The Spanish National Research Council (the results are presented on the Internet on the websites of Cybermetrics Lab). CSIC belongs to the most important scientific-research organizations in Europe and operates within the Spanish Ministry of Education. The main task of CSIC is to promote dissemination of publications containing scientific research results on the Internet in order to stimulate the dynamics of technical progress. Scientific research centers are prioritized in terms of activity and communication of their researchers via the Internet. Therefore, the ranking does not analyze scientific achievements, but it is mainly based on the materials made available by individual research institutions on the Internet. The following features are taken into account: visibility (50%) on the Internet (the number of external links with the domains to which the links redirect) and performance indicators (50%), inter alia: size, the total number of web pages, the sum of the following file types: pdf, doc , docx, ppt and pptx or articles on Google Scholar for the entire database and more recent bases over the period of 5 years, from 2009 to 2013.

Our Institute’s results are getting better and better every year and among other Polish scientific research institutions we come out very well.
