October in Pećs (Hungary), on the initiative of the University of Pécs and under the auspices of the WHO
Regional Office for Europe, a symposium devoted to the health problems, including
healthy aging of the Roma population in the EU took place. Maciej Dobras, MA,
who attended the meeting on behalf of the Nofer Institute of Occupational
Medicine in Łódź, delivered two lectures: "Polish policy concerning areas
of health and employment of the Roma" and "EU policy on the
integration of the Roma community". The symposium was crowned with a formulation of a declaration, in which the experts presented
their recommendations - sine qua non conditions to ensure that the EU Member
States provide the Roma community, as well as other migrant populations, with equal
access to health care and social security benefits. The full text of the
Declaration, signed by the Director of NIOM, can be found here.
