On the 23rd of March  2016 prof. Maciej Stępnik received from the Head of Unit C2 – Country knowledge and scientific committees (EC) an official letter informing about appointing Stępnik as a new member of the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS).

The Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS), as a Committee operating within the structure of  European Commission, provides opinions on health and safety risks (chemical, biological, mechanical and other physical risks) of non-food consumer products (e.g. cosmetic products and their ingredients, toys, textiles, clothing, personal care and household products) and services (e.g. tattooing, artificial sun tanning). It usually produces its reports in response to a specific request, but it can also, at its own initiative, publish statements on specific topics.

Professor Stępnik as a member of SCCS will play an essential role in policy development in the
European Union, particularly in the areas of consumer safety, public health and the environment at the service of EU citizens.

Apart from congratulations, the manager of the Department of Toxicology and Carcinogenesis simultaneously  received an invitation to the first meeting of the Scientific Committees, which will take place on 28 and 29 April 2016 at the Commission premises in Luxembourg.
