Abstract

Background. Many diseases of retina result in prolonged reaction time to dazzlement. This hinders driving a car ar nightfall and at night. The regulations binding in Poland recomend to take dazzlements tests, however, they are not taken as often as required because of the lack of appropriate equipment. Materials and Methods. We investigated 79 patients after treatment of retinal detachment to determine light sensitivity using the Bailliart test. Results. The tests showed a prolonged reaction time to dazzlement in as comparison with the intact eye;the longer time, the more severe pathological changes in the macula region and the lower visual acuity after treatment. Conclusions. The study demonstrated a prolonged reaction time to dizzlement after treatment of retinal detachment. The Bailliart test is easy to perform, therefore we suggest to use it more widely, to especially during examinations of care drivers.
