Occupational exposure to carcinogenic substances during iron founding processes

Abstract

Background: This article presents the results of an assessment of occupational exposure to carcinogenic compounds in workers of iron foundries. Material and Methods: The assessment was based on the determined concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), benzene and formaldehyde. Results and Conclusions: The investigation showed that workers engaged at different stages of the production of iron casts are exposed to carcinogenic substances. This is particularly true forcasters of moulds and cast strikers.
