Centre of Competence in Occupational Hearing Loss HEARLOSS
managed by prof. Śliwińska-Kowalska, Director of Medicine and Scientific Staff Development,  has been operating since 2002 and consists of two units of NIOM i.e. Department of Physical Hazards and Audiology and Phoniatrics Clinic. The main tasks of the Centre include:

– performing epidemiological assessment of risk of hearing loss as a result of occupational and environmental exposure to noise;
– identification and assessment of hearing hazards related to exposure to chemical agents, especially organic solvents;
– evaluating methods used for assessment of exposure to noise
– development of monitoring methods and methods for early detection of noise induced hearing loss;
– studying the influence of genetic mutations on occurrence of noise induced hearing loss.
